With over 120 private railways in the UK in 1910, competition was fierce. During World War I, the government took over control of these railways for the war effort. The end of the war brought these railways back to private operation and the Railways Act of 1921 forced railways to combine into fewer, but more efficient, railways. This government mandated ‘Grouping’ was fertile ground for financial gain for the sharp investors, with many reaping huge profits and gains from their initial investments.
Players are investors, managers and railway presidents during this often chaotic period in British railway history. The best financiers will come out on top in this often brutal struggle for control & ownership of the railways. Calculation & instinct are critical factors in this contest, as there is no luck factor here. 3-6 players contend for vast wealth in this game by the renowned designer Han Heidema.
